Every year the Schweikher House participates in Docomomo US Tour Day. This year is a little different and to keep everyone safe instead of offering only one day of tours, we are offering two Saturday tours, October 10th & 17th, to keep groups at a minimum and our visitors safe. Tours are also offered every Friday (October 2, 9, 16, 23, and 30) at 11 am & 1 pm.

Join Docomomo US/Chicago for an exclusive virtual tour of the Freeark House, designed by John Vinci and Lawrence Kenny and built 1971-1975. The Freeark House embodies a broad trend in the architectural community in Chicago in the 1970s: the pervasive influence of – and the emerging reaction against – architect Mies van der Rohe.

The Hilltop House and Studio is a hand-crafted, artist-made home, built by artist Dorothy Riester (1916 - 2017) and her husband, Bob Riester. Constructed in the late 1950’s to the early 1970’s, the home is nestled in the rural hills of Cazenovia, New York.

The Historic Albany Foundation will be providing a self guided tour of a variety of midcentury architecture to be found in New York's capital region from the 1970s.

Today preservationists seek to honor and save seemingly impersonal and stark modernist buildings of the 1970s whose construction was often a bête noire of their preservationist predecessors. Buildings such as the New Haven Savings Bank (1972) or the New Haven County Courthouse (1971) present us with much to admire and ponder – they may seem formal and simple, but as we take in their cutouts and windows, ornaments and patterns appear.

A special 1-hour long in-person tour of the James Rose Center in Ridgewood, NJ, home of modernist landscape artist James Rose. A self-guided walking tour of the Center will be made available as a podcast as a backup in case the in-person tour can not be held.

Docomomo US/Oregon is taking to the virtual road to celebrate architecture's most groovy era, the 1970's. Attendees will visit sites, landscapes, and public art from across the state that showcases how design in the 1970's experimented with new forms, color, texture, and psychedelic excess.

Can you dig it? The Docomomo US/MN annual Tour Day is going virtual this year. Far out! Join us Sunday, October 11, 2020 for an online virtual tour that will crisscross the state of Minnesota, highlighting public and private sites that exemplify the outta sight (and now historic) decade of late modernism that was the 1970s.

This live virtual walking tour will explore the prefabricated Cliff May Homes in southwest Denver’s Harvey Park neighborhood. We will look at the streetscape of this unique enclave, and take a closer look at a residence both inside and out from an architectural perspective.

Modernism Week is pleased to announce the launch of their Fall Preview Online Experience to be released for purchase and viewing at 12 p.m. PST on October 15, 2020 on modernismweek.com. The online video programs will comprise five different events (similar to programs that would typically be available during Modernism Week as live events) with prices ranging from $10 to $35 per household.

Join the Michigan Chapter of Docomomo US and Cranbrook Center for Collections and Research as they partner with Docomomo US for Tour Day 2020. The Michigan celebration of Tour Day 2020 will start at Bowlero Lanes & Lounge in Royal Oak, which has been authentically renovated by the current owners, Kelly and Dean Elliott, to capture the look and feel of the 1970s. Our Zoom screens will then move to Bloomfield Hills and the Frank Lloyd Wright-designed Smith House.

Join Modern Albuquerque for an exclusive virtual tour of the Albuquerque Main Public Library, the city's newest landmark! Designed by George Clayton Pearl FAIA of the architectural firm Stevens, Mallory, Pearl & Campbell, the flexible library space masterfully blends regional sensibilities with modernist principles. Completed in 1975, forward-thinking programming has kept it remarkably well-preserved - and beloved by its administrators. Many original design features have survived the years, including funky and futuristic 1970s furnishings and fabrics.

The Docomomo US/New York Tri-State chapter we will be presenting a virtual tour of Marcus Garvey Village in Brooklyn as their contribution to Docomomo US Tour Day 2020 celebrating the theme "The '70s Turn 50." Our guide Mark Ginsberg, FAIA of Curtis + Ginsberg Architects designed a major renovation to the complex. He will explain the project’s background, its strengths and weaknesses, how it fared over time and how the renovation revitalized the complex.. The votes are in! Docomomo US/Hawaii held a poll to see what 1970s buildings you most wanted tours of and the results are in. Out of the 28 buildings built between 1970-72 on the list, short documentary films of each of the top five vote-getters will be created and premiered during the Annual Walking Tour event.
