Built between 1968 and 1971, the Lakeside Center at McCormick Place is a multi-level convention center pavilion situated on Lake Michigan in Burnham Park on the Near South Side of Chicago. The building was designed in the International Style by architects Gene Summers and Helmut Jahn of C.F. Murphy Associates, one the Chicago's most prominent post-World War II architectural firms. The Lakeside pavilion was the sole convention center building in the current McCormick Center complex until the construction of the McCormick Center North in 1986. Despite further expansions of McCormick Place over the last 30 years, the 1971 McCormick Place building remains to be the most significant of all the buildings in the complex due to its architectural design and lake front site.
