Minoru Yamasaki, Detroit’s best-known midcentury architect, left his mark all over the city, including in Detroit’s Cultural Center. Learn how Yamasaki came to Wayne State University in the mid-1950s to extend and execute their master plan with new buildings, including four designed by Yamasaki, and the transition to a pedestrian-friendly campus, while helping to establish the College for Creative Studies' new 1950s campus.
Tour highlights include the magnificent McGregor Memorial Conference Center and its Reflecting Pool and Sculpture Garden.
Tour departs from the Josephine Ford Sculpture Garden on the College of Creative Studies campus on John R at E Kirby. Please arrive 15 minutes early. Tour takes place rain or shine. Parking: Metered and non-metered street parking is available in the immediate area. Paid parking is also available in the DIA parking lot.
