An Advocacy Award of Excellence is presented to the Carol and Dan Price, Steve Curry and the coalition of advocates who successfully saved the home of artist and architect Victor Lundy in Bellaire, Texas. Recognizing the property’s significance and vulnerability, Steve Curry, president of Houston Mod, began working with the Lundy family, the listing realtor, and Preservation Houston, to organize a virtual program on Lundy’s life and a public open house that introduced more than 100 visitors to the property. After the property sold and the new owners moved toward demolition, Curry rallied a coalition that included Preservation Houston, Docomomo US, the Texas Historical Foundation, Houston Mod, GSA historic building specialist Joan Brierton and Lundy scholar Donna Kacmar. Together, they engaged with the owner, generated local and national press, and advocated for a preservation-minded sale. Curry’s persistence ultimately connected the house with Dan and Carol Price, who had first encountered the property through the open house.  Their appreciation of Lundy’s work grew into a commitment to become its stewards, stepping in at a critical moment to save the house from demolition. The preservation of the Lundy house demonstrates the power of timely advocacy, community connections, and committed stewardship. As Lundy’s own home, the house offers a rare and deeply personal expression of his ideas about modern living, art, materials, and the relationship between architecture and site. The vigilance of local advocates, combined with the Prices’ willingness to become its stewards, transformed a potential loss into a cause for celebration.
