Temple Emanuel

Site overview

Temple Emanuel, designed by Erich Mendelsohn, is a soaring two-story structure with deep cornices at first floor and roof levels. Thick muntins separate the second level clerestory windows into bays divided by a projecting vertical element. The façade is pale yellow brick with white trim.  Interior features include movable walls and a 1000 square foot mural by painter Lucienne Bloch Dimitroff, protégé of Diego Rivera.  A courtyard separates the Temple from the L-shaped classroom wing.
