Hopewell Baptist Church

Site overview

Associated with unique and creative structures, partocularly in residential design (his Bavinger House of 1957 is one of the most notable), Goff designed this religious structure for a small congregation. The imaginative form of the church, with its accompanying steel supports, has evoked symbolism of the state's Native American teepee heritage and of the Oklahoma oil well, thus creating a common bond with the people and their place of worship. (Adapted from A Field Guide to Landmarks of Modern Architecture in the United States, by Miriam F. Stimpson)
