It's a weird time for, well . . . everything, including real estate. Agents have adapted to "the new normal" by staging virtual showings, and there's still plenty of homes on the market. So go ahead and look - from the safety of your computer screen.
John Lautner's personal residence
2007 Micheltorena St, Silver Lake, CA
The architect’s own residence. On the National Register of Historic Places. When the work was published, architectural critic Henry Russell Hitchcock called it the “best house by an architect under 30 in the U.S.” Historian Alan Hess wrote of Lautner’s work, “they embodied kinetic energy, rising and looping skyward in exhilarating leaps – one of the vernacular and visceral designs of freedom that Lautner appropriated in his art.” When built, the two bedrooms in the residence were accessible from a balcony which has since been enclosed. Yellow stucco and natural redwood were the original finishes of the house. Natural ventilation was created by sloping the ceiling over the two-level main living space so that the warm air would rise and exit above the kitchen. A patio just outside the kitchen & dining area expand indoor/outdoor flow. 2 bd/2 ba + bonus/bd, original built-ins, fireplace in living room, & views of the surrounding hills.
International Style home (Knives Out cameo included)
37 Laurel Dr, Lincoln, MA $1,400,000 Built 1957 Located at the top of the cul-de-sac in the Modernist enclave of Brown’s Wood in Lincoln, the Hill House is a dazzling International Style Mid-Century-Modern home. The house was designed by Walter Pierce, who planned and developed the pioneering Peacock Farm neighborhood in Lexington, and the “Peacock Farm House” design built first there (and soon replicated in other neighborhoods and towns). Unlike the Peacock Farm House, 37 Laurel is closer in design to Pierce’s own home and informed by Bauhaus and West Coast-via-Japan architectural principles. Indeed, the house is reminiscent of Marcel Breuer’s own house, also in Lincoln.
East Coast Neutra
25 Huckleberry Lane Weston, CT
Few names evoke immediate reverence. Richard Neutra is one of them. One of the greatest contributors to modern architecture, Neutra mastered the notion that when art and function merge, great architecture results. The Corwin House, commissioned in 1955, remains a reminder of this simple principle. The Corwin House is one of only a few known homes in Connecticut designed by Neutra, giving it a significant place in the mid-century modern architecture world.

MCM with Hollywood Sign view
3378 Ledgewood Dr., Los Angeles, CA 90068
The Malinoff Residence, Robert Malinoff (1958). Built for his own family while still a student at USC School of Architecture, Malinoff's design clearly embraces the tenets of his place of study. Simple materials elevated by their use, a clear expression of structure, and an openness to the outdoors without sacrificing privacy. The home displays a level of sophistication that would make it easy to mistake as having been built by one of his more famous contemporaries. A recent sympathetic renovation by HabHouse shows their adept skill in recreating period details wherever they have been lost. System and functionality updates have also been made, readying the home for only its third inhabitant since built. An incredibly peaceful and lush Beachwood Canyon setting; well situated for easy access to all of the city, yet seemingly a world away from it.
