Help us help Houston's historic properties
Houston and Harris County have begun the lengthy process of recovering from the unprecedented events of the last few weeks. Residents in several historic neighborhoods are dealing with the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey and the unique challenges facing the owners of historic properties.
We are very grateful that several of you have contacted us asking how you can support Preservation Houston's work assisting the owners of flood-damaged historic properties. If you would like to make a tax-deductible contribution, you may do so online with a credit or debit card or mail a check to:

Preservation Houston is in contact with government agencies at the local, state and national levels and will continue to share accurate, timely information as it becomes available. Our professional staff is working to provide Texas Historical Commission and FEMA with information on historic neighborhoods and significant properties that were damaged in the storm. We are also coordinating the efforts of organizations in Houston and across the country to bring in experts to advise the owners of flood-damaged historic homes and buildings.

Rebuild Architecture Center Houston
Hurrican Harvey delivered more than 4' of water and almost total devastation to the new space under construction for Architecture Center Houston in the historic 1906 B.A. Riesner building in downtown Houston. The space was within 3 weeks of completion when the storm hit and flood mitigation designed specifically for this type of event was not yet fully installed. Typical building insurance does not cover flood damage. The risk policy carried by the contractor will cover some of the costs, but has a $250,000 deductible.
Architecture Center Houston could use your help. We've been contacted by colleagues across the country asking how they can help. A donation toward the costs associated with rebuilding our new center would be greatly appreciated. All donations will be acknowledged on a special donor wall inside the new center. All donations are tax deductible and will go to the Architecture Center Houston Foundation, a 501c3 charitable institution whose mission is to educate the public on issues of architecture, urban planning, and design. Any funds raised in excess of our need for the new center will be directed to the Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund set up by the City of Houston.
