The New Haven Preservation Trust joins Congregation B'nai Jacob to offer a guided look inside their mid-century Woodbridge synagogue, inviting wider reflection on modern design in sacred spaces. Among the final works of Jewish German émigré Fritz Nathan (1891-1960), B'nai Jacob's design culminated his search for a new synagogue architecture, the preoccupation of his practice since re-establishing himself in the United States. Congregants Joe Blumberg and David Skolnick will join us with firsthand insights and memories of the congregation's history in its present home. Following a survey presentation of modern American synagogue architecture, our hosts will guide us through the building's luminous and lofty spaces, decorated extensively with stained glass by French-American master Jean-Jacques Duval (1930-2021).

Registration required. No cost to attend.

This event is organized by the New Haven Preservation Trust, a private, 501(c)(3) charitable organization, whose  mission is to rally our diverse city to embrace and champion its historic places and spaces.
