Living Modern: A Pittsburgh Modern Committee weekend program exploring mid-20th-century homes and related archives. Visit modern houses by architects Peter Berndtson & Cornelia Brierly, explore the Carnegie Mellon University Architecture Archives, and be the first to get Pittsburgh Modern Committee's Map #4 in their Modern Survey Pittsburgh series, which received a 2023 Modernism in America Award.

Friday 10/13
The weekend kicks off Friday with a special visit to the Carnegie Mellon University Architecture Archives and Special Collections Fine and Rare Book Room (featuring Jens Risom furnishings) where librarian & archivist Lynn Kawaratani will share highlights from the Berndtson Collection and more related to modernist architecture in Pittsburgh. Followed by a reception with refreshments to celebrate the release of our fourth Modern Survey Pittsburgh Map: Squirrel Hill Homes - Part 1 and the series having recently received a Docomomo US Modernism in America Award.

Saturday 10/14
Exterior + interior house tours with the homeowners on Saturday include the Landis House (1947 - Squirrel Hill), the Lipkind House (1954 - Swisshelm Park), and the Katz-McComb House and Notz House (1950 & 1940 - West Mifflin). Learn about these residential designs by architects Cornelia Brierly & Peter Berndtson, each at various stages of restoration and preservation by their passionate stewards. Self-driving/self-report, parking instructions provided to registrants

Sunday 10/15
Venture to Greensburg on Sunday for a tour of the architects' incredible Miller-Cole House (1955) and a boxed-lunch on their sprawling landscaped lawn. A stop at the nearby Westmoreland Museum of American Art for a curator-led walk-through of new exhibitions Frank Lloyd Wright’s Southwestern Pennsylvania and Toshiko Mori & Frank Lloyd Wright: Dialogue in Details wraps us the program! Self-driving/self-report, parking instructions provided to registrants
