General Information
In partnership with Villa Müller in Prague, Villa Tugendhat in Brno and Pilsen Turismus in the Czech Republic, The Iconic Houses Foundation presents its 10th anniversary, 7th International Conference from May 22-26, 2023. The Iconic Houses Network has connected modern house museums and artists' homes/studios since November 2012. This leading platform for professional discussion about the conservation and management of modern house museums aims not only to share best practices but also to encourage development of the field in new and exciting ways.
In the Czech Republic, the Iconic Houses Network has eleven wonderful modern house museum members. Among these are the Villa Müller in Prague and five interiors in Pilsen, all designed by Adolf Loos; and the Villa Tugendhat in Brno, the masterpiece designed by celebrated German-American architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, which has been inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 2001. Immerse yourself in two keynotes and 16 short presentations, as well as a dense program of house tours to residential masterpieces and hidden gems alike.
This program offers a wonderful insight into the 20th-century development of the Czech house and the evolution from traditional vernacular architecture to the Modernism of the International Style.
In addition, you’ll visit the houses and studios of important Czech artists, such as František Bílek and Otto Rothmayer. We also explore Villa Winternitz, designed by Adolf Loos and his collaborator Karel Lhota, which can be rented for overnight stays. Come discover the Iconic Houses of the Czech Republic!
