Biography

American architect best known for the Shrine of the Book (1965), the onion-shaped structure at the Israel Museum in Jerusalem, designed with his partner Frederick Kiesler. He attended the University of Pennsylvania, and later earned an M.A. in architecture from M.I.T. He and his wife collected modern art and donated works and grants to the Museum of Modern Art in New York City, and also supported the New York Public Library.
