Magnolia Branch Library

Site overview

An integration of landscape, architecture, and structure in a holistic expression, the building is a synthesis of traditional Japanese wood bypass structural techniques and modern-era exposed wood and timber framing. The open interior volumes are amply lit by an abundance of windows and clerestories. The original branch, designed by noted Seattle architect Paul Hayden Kirk, exemplifies Northwest Regional design. Original furniture was designed and built by mid-century master craftsman, George Nakashima.
