Hyatt Regency Atlanta, originally designed by renowned Atlanta architect John Portman, was the first contemporary atrium hotel in the world. This atrium lobby prompted a revolution in the design of hotels, placing Hyatt Regency Atlanta in the forefront of the luxury hotel industry. Upon opening in May 1967, the hotel towered above the Atlanta skyline as the tallest building in the city.
