This past June, Docomomo US/Northern California led a sold-out tour of San Francisco’s Cathedral Hill and Western Addition as part of San Francisco Design Week, an annual festival led by AIGA. Around 25 people came to learn about the history of redevelopment and urban renewal in this traditionally African-American and Japanese-American neighborhood. Buildings and landscapes by Minoru Yamasaki (Japan Center Mall), Lawrence Halprin (St. Francis Square), Pier Luigi Nervi & Pietro Belluschi (Cathedral of St. Mary of the Assumption), and housing developments by Eichler Homes were all part of the tour.
