Undated plan by Eckbo’s teacher, H.L. Vaughan, and his wife, Adele Vaughan, for a beach house at Point Richmond. Photo courtesy of Department of Landscape Architecture, University of California, Berkeley. This plan and section, completed sometime after 1933, show a small-scale residential project typical of California landscape practices in the pre-war and early post-war eras. Within a subtly asymmetrical layout, the Vaughans provided spaces for playing, gardening, and gazing out across San Francisco Bay.
