Revisiting Urban Renewal in the US: Redevelopment, Rehaniliatation, and Recentralization in the Post-War City

 

This session revisits the contested terrain of urban renewal in case studies of projects ranging from Manhattan to Milwaukee to Oklahoma and reexamines the complex and contradictory contributions of private developers, state actors, architects, and planners in urban transformation from the 1950s to the 1970s.
