First Church of Boston

Boston, MA
Image details

The original First Church of Boston dates to 1868 and was designed by William Robert Ware and Henry Van Brunt. After a fire in 1968, Paul Rudolph was commissioned to rebuild the structure. He created a Modernist striking Modernist interior while incorporating the remains of the facade and tower. Just across the street sits the First Lutheran Church of Boston, designed by Pietro Belluschi from 1955-57. In accordance with this year's annual theme, "Places of Worship," Docomomo US is hosting a special evening reception with a chance to explore both of these sacred spaces.
