Southfield was Michigan's fastest growing city in the early 1960s. Corporations began relocating to Southfield in the mid-1950s. With explosive growth came top name architects and an array of distinctive Mid-Century Modern architecture. The 2.5 hour tour includes homes, neighborhoods, religious institutions, commercial buildings and others. Participants will park at Shaarey Zedek Synagogue (27375 Bell Road, Southfield, MI 48034) and be bused about the city on a narrated tour. There will be several stops on the tour for guests to enter buildings for closer inspection. Architects include Gunnar Birkerts, Minoru Yamasaki, Louis Redstone, Percival Goodman, among others. The tour concludes at Shaarey Zedek.
