Become a Tour Day Host
Docomomo US Tour Day is a series of individual events taking place in and around the first weekend in October that raise the awareness of and appreciation for buildings, interiors, neighborhoods and landscapes designed in the United States during the mid-20th century. Tour Day invites organizations and people across the country to take stock of significant 20th century built design in their state, city, region or neighborhood and celebrate that work with a tour.
Although Tour Day began as a regional event through the Docomomo US chapters, any architecture or design related organization, group or individual can organize a tour. Some of our past partners have included preservation organizations such as the Los Angeles Conservancy, Houston Mod, and the Historic Albany Foundation as well as architecture related organizations like the Chicago Architecture Foundation, the Society of Architectural Historians and the Philip Johnson Glass House.
Docomomo US Tour Day can also be much more than just a tour. Some of our best Tour Day events include pre-tour lectures, meet-and-greet with the architects, post-event receptions. Events can be unique one-day or weekend events, they can be an encore tour your organization has given previously or an on-going event that might deserve more local or national attention.
If you have an idea for a tour that celebrates modernism in your area and would like more information, email us at tourday(at)docomomo-us.org. To register your event for Tour Day, please complete the following form with the details of your event. As Tour Day continues to grow, we are thrilled to bring in new partners and participants throughout the country.

Tour Day 2014 takes place on Saturday, October 11, 2014. Although most tours are organized for Saturday, events will take place throughout the weekend.
Tour Day is a national event happening from coast to coast. Expected locations for 2014 include: Northern California, Seattle, Chicago, Philadelphia, New York, New England, Florida, Dallas, Austin/San Antonio, Houston, Georgia, Minnesota, New Orleans, North Carolina, Palm Springs, New Haven, Albany, Phoenix, St. Louis, Detroit, Ann Arbor and Portland, Oregon.
While the mid-20th century is enjoying a bit of a cultural renaissance, architecture from the time period is often misunderstood and undervalued. Tour Day seeks to bring awareness to the technical, historic and aesthetic value buildings of this time period have in our current society and culture.
If you’re an interested person who would like to participate in Tour Day, we will be posting all the Tour Day locations in late August. We recommend you sign-up for our monthly e-news for updates on Tour Day locations and special event notices.
If you want to make sure there’s an event in your area, take a look at previous Tour Day locations. If you don’t see your area, contact us and let us know who we might get in touch with to organize an event.
