As we head into the new year, Docomomo US is acutely aware of all that is at stake as we continue to face a political environment that jeopardize long and hard fought preservation efforts. From ongoing advocacy efforts, to recognizing significant people and projects in the Modernism in America Awards, to celebrating and bringing awareness to significant architecture and design across the country during the National Symposium and Tour Day, see what is taking place in 2018.

Advocacy

Docomomo US along with our chapters and partners led a number of remarkable advocacy victories last year. But there are still looming threats facing modern buildings, sites, and landscapes across the country. The Terrace Plaza Hotel, Peavey Plaza, AT&T, the Albright Knox campus, Miami's Babylon Apartments, and Freeway Park in Seattle are still threatened with demolition or redevelopment. Docomomo US in addition to our chapters, friend organizations, and partners will remain viligent and continue to speak out for our modern heritage.

If there is an advocacy issue taking place in your neighborhood you feel we should know about, contact us: info(AT)docomomo-us.org.

Modernism in America Awards

Docomomo US is now accepting nominations for the 2018 Modernism in America Awards. The awards celebrate the documentation, preservation and re-use of modern buildings, structures and landscapes built in the United States or on U.S. territory by recognizing the building owners, design teams, advocacy and preservation organizations that have made significant efforts to retain, restore and advocate for the aesthetic and cultural value of such places.

Early nominations are due February 2, 2018, and all nominations must be submitted by March 2, 2018.

Save the date! The Modernism in America Awards ceremony is set to take place June 20th in New York City. More details will follow shortly.
