"Docomomo US receives National Park Service Media Grant for the Explore Modern project, a new visually vibrant and content rich online destination featuring the nation’s historic modern buildings, sites, landscapes and neighborhoods."

Docomomo US is pleased to announce the organization is a recipient of the National Park Service’s Center for Preservation Technology media grant for the Explore Modern project. The Explore Modern project builds upon the Docomomo US’ Register and will be incorporated into Docomomo US’ new website.

The Explore Modern project seeks to raise public awareness of the rich diversity of modern buildings, sites and landscapes, inform ongoing stewardship decisions and offer continued scholarship. By providing a fresh, authentic, and comprehensive catalogue of our nation’s historic modern sites, Explore Modern will present an unprecedented opportunity to inform, expand and strengthen preservation initiatives and will serve as an easily available tool for advocacy by bringing together a broad range of in-depth research and data sources into a user-friendly experience accessible on any device.

In July, the National Park Service announced $324,700 in grants to fund research, training, and online and social media projects that promote innovative uses of technology in the preservation of America’s important cultural and historical resources. The National Park Service's National Center for Preservation Technology and Training administers the grants as part of its efforts to create new technologies and training opportunities to preserve historic and cultural resources throughout the United States. Since 1994, the center has awarded more than $9.7 million in grants to fund science and technology-based projects for historic preservation.
