2017 has been a busy year for the Docomomo US Chapters as they have engaged in advocacy, held tours and events, and celebrated the modern heritage found in their neighborhoods. Read what the chapters have been up to below.
The DC chapter saw some exciting developments take place in 2017 as they launched a new website in 2017, engaged in a number of advocacy issues, and highlighted DC's incredible collection of Brutalist architecture for Tour Day.
The Florida chapter launched an advocacy campaign to designate and save Miami's The Office in Grove. Ultimately the local preservation board deemed the building not significant enough to designate, paving the way for the redevelopment project to move forward as planned. They too held a Tour Day event featuring Brutalist architecture in Fort Lauderdale.
From tours and events to launching a campaign to raise money to save the Isami Enomoto Murals, the Hawaii chapter continues to be a leading voice for modernism in the 50th state.
This past year, the Minnesota chapter monitored the developments surrounding Peavey Plaza, supported local advocacy efforts, and celebrated SHELTER during Tour Day.
After the heartbreaking loss of the Nuclear Reactor building on the University of Washington, Docomomo US/WEWA won their landmark case against the University at the State Supreme Court and received the Advocacy Award of Excellence in the 2017 Modernism in America Awards.
