The Kahala District, East of Diamond Head, is known for large homes facing the ocean and gracious winding streets with mid-century residences. The tour highlight will be a rare opportunity to walk through the 1958 home of internationally acclaimed artist Jean Charlot that he designed in collaboration with Pete Wimberly. There will also be a stop at the luxurious Kahala Hotel (1964), and an unaltered Vladimir Ossipoff house.

Visit a few of the many churches built in Hawaii during the Mid-Century, a time of unprecedented growth of a great diversity of religions in Hawaii. The tour will take you to a variety of these churches, built to inspire. Newspapers in the 1960s discussed the “way out” and “new look” of Hawaii churches “based on imaginative thinking.”

Memorial Parks, one of the by-products of the City Beautiful and romantic movement, where families could settle their loved ones into a park-like setting, developed in twentieth century. Take a ride into the countryside of Oahu to see the Modern structures that sit in these bucolic settings.

This rotating tour visits several buildings designed by Hawaii Modern master Vladimir Ossipoff. Starting at either Ossipoff's Bachman Hall on UH campus, or the Pacific Club, the tour visits his sacred Punahou Chapel and the Liljestrand House masterpiece. Ossipoff's office designed a range of buildings that have defined the Hawaii Modern style, from private clubs to private homes, this tour has buildings you might otherwise not be able to see.
