Docomomo US is pleased to announce sixteen recipients of the 2024 Modernism in America Awards. Now in its 11th year, the Awards celebrate the documentation, preservation and reuse of Modern buildings, structures and landscapes built in the United States or on U.S. territory and recognize building owners, design teams, individuals, and preservation organizations that have made significant efforts to retain, restore, and advocate for the aesthetic and cultural value of such places.

The second installment of the 2024 Special Edition, features new articles and a photo essay and highlights Eero Saarinen’s outsize influence on corporate modern architecture; the impact of Formica on Cincinnati and other businesses; and how American corporate campuses influenced similar developments in Canada. And believe it or not, how a former Coca-Cola corporate campus turned Costco is educating shoppers about preservation while they wait for hot dogs.

Tour Day 2024: Corporate Campuses

Tour Day 2024 takes place Saturday, October 19, and throughout the month of October. The only national program of its kind, Tour Day is devoted to the appreciation of modern architecture in the United States. Tours and events focused on architecture and design of the Modern Movement are hosted by Docomomo US chapters, partners, and leading voices in preservation. Tour Day events can be hosted by nearly anyone interested in or with access to a significant modern building or site.

Before there was Mad Men, Design Within Reach, or Dwell there was Docomomo.

Docomomo US is the United States chapter of Docomomo International, a non-profit organization dedicated to the documentation and conservation of buildings, sites and neighborhoods of the modern movement for nearly 25 years.
