Image details

Join the Pittsburgh Modern Committee of Preservation Pittsburgh for a curated walking tour of mid-20th-century modern and postmodern architecture and related sites of public art and design throughout the neighborhood of Oakland and the University of Pittsburgh campus.

We'll explore styles by regional architects including Tasso Katselas, Deeter & Ritchey and Johnstone, Newcomer & Valentour as well as structures by non-local designers including Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, Edward Larrabee Barnes, and Harrison & Abramovitz. Original interiors such as the Hillman Library and Posvar Hall will be included where works by artist Virgil Cantini remain installed.

Part of DOORS OPEN Pittsburgh, the annual two-day event that provides unique access to explore and experience a collection of iconic, and newly designed buildings, in select neighborhoods of Pittsburgh.

Partial proceeds from this tour will benefit Preservation Pittsburgh a non-profit advocacy group dedicated to the preservation of our region's historic, architectural, cultural and environmental heritage.

The Pittsburgh Modern Committee aims to celebrate, explore and protect Pittsburgh's 20th century modern & postmodern architecture & design through programming, resources, research, and advocacy.
