Enjoy a great day touring 11 new and renovated Modernist houses around Durham, Carrboro, Chapel Hill, and Pittsboro without the hassle of driving!

Modapalooza includes the delightful company of fellow Modernist architecture fans, breakfast, snacks, drinks, a delicious lunch, and free wifi in our luxury restroom-equipped, air-conditioned bus.

You'll also meet many of the architects, designers, and builders - including Arielle Schechter, Louis Cherry, Jason Hart, Heather Washburn, Dail Dixon, and Jenny Hoffman.

Fee includes transport, coffee and bagels at registration, water and snacks on board, and choice of BBQ or vegetarian lunch (a delicious farmer's salad).

Proceeds benefit NCModernist, a North Carolina 501C3 nonprofit educational archive for the documentation, preservation, and promotion of Modernist houses.

Revisit the Whitehall Mall, a “Shopping Gem of the Golden Era”

When the Whitehall Mall opened in the summer of 1966 it was the first enclosed shopping center in Pennsylvania outside of Philadelphia, approximately one hour north. A modern wonder with air-conditioning and heating, it offered an impressive 52 stores, a supermarket, and a 1,000-seat movie theater. The local newspaper reported Whitehall Mall was “a fresh, futuristic outlook on retailing and merchandising.” Despite its popularity by the mid 70’s, the next new thing opened directly across the street in 1976.
