welcome our newest chapter:
Docomomo US will join the ten
regional chapters and continue to
strengthen the US working party's
impact by across the country.
Minnesota preservationists,
architects, scholars and people
interested in the area's significant
modern movement history have
gained momentum over the past
years, organizing local tours,
lectures and events, and
connecting with each other
through regular Facebook and
Twitter updates. For the 2009
National Tour Day Docomomo
US/Minnesota presented "Haus to
Haus," a tour focused on high modernism concepts and maintenance issues with a preserved postwar ranch house in Minneapolis. The new chapter will offer local tours again this year as part of the national Tour Day 2010 initiative on October 9.
Minnesota's modern landscape is host to numerous nationally recognized modern masters. Highlights include residential works by Marcel Breuer, Philip Johnson's IDS tower and Crystal Court atrium, the world's first climate controlled indoor mall by Victor Gruen, Eliel Saarinen's Christ Church Luthern, Lawrence Halprin's Nicollet Mall pedestrian shopping street, S.O.M.'s General Mills corporate campus, Gunnar Birkerts' Federal Reserve Building, Eero Saarinen’s IBM corporate suburban architecture and numerous residences by Frank Lloyd Wright. The most influential local MN talents include Ralph Rapson and his Guthrie Theater, as well as Thorshov & Cerny, HGA, Ellerbe Associates, Magney, Tusler & Setter and Close Associates.
