BUILDING WATCH: Boston City Hall Up for Sale?

The Boston Globe (December 12, 2006) reports that Mayor Thomas M. Menino has refloated his 1998 idea of selling City Hall and its surrounding Plaza for private redevelopment and possible destruction by its purchaser. The building is a 1969 Brutalist design is by Gerhard Kallmann and Michael Noel McKinnell.

AGAIN: A Rudolph Threatened with Demolition

The new owners of a Paul Rudolph-designed residence in Westport, CT, have expressed intentions to demolish the house. The threat to the Rudolph project became known to the national preservation community, many of whom are trying to rally support to save this significant work, including a search for an alternate buyer to ensure the property’s preservation.

DOCOMOMO Japan and other preservation advocates in Tokyo are asking DOCOMOMO US members and friends to help save two important buildings designed by Antonin Raymond on the campus of Tokyo Women’s College.

THREATENED: Bunshaft's LBJ Library & Plaza

Texas Historical Commission opposes design of Lady Bird Johnson Center at the Lyndon B. Johnson Library and Museum in Austin, Texas. The Museum complex was designed by Gordon Bunshaft of the firm Skidmore, Owings and Merrill.
