The sarasota County School Board voted Tuesday to move forward with plans to tear down a historic building at Riverview High School, ending a two-year-long effort by local activists to save it.
The DOCOMOMO Turkey National Working Party has learned with great concern that Kayseri Metropolitan
Municipality and Erciyes University plan to demolish some of existing parts of the Sümerbank Textile
Factory Complex in Kayseri (Turkstoj, 1935) for a landscaping and land-development project.
The Sümerbank Complex was one of the earliest industrial production plants of the young Turkish
Republic. It was not only intended for the development of the local and national economy but also as a
part of the socio-political revolution aimed at nation-building and modernization.
On May 13th, presumably due to a short circuit caused by a faulty water pipe, a disastrous fire occurred at the Faculty of Architecture Technical University of Delft. The building was designed and completed in the late 1960’s by Jaap Bakema of the architecture firm Van den Broek and Bakema. The building, also home of Docomomo Netherlands and the Organizing Committee of the 10th International Docomomo Conference, was completely destroyed. Fortunately, the building was evacuated in time and there were no injuries. However, the loss of work of faculty and students, including damage to the library collection, one of the best in Europe with over 40,000 publications is regrettable.
The New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission rejected a development proposal that would have demolished nine buildings in the Greenwich Village Historic District, including Albert Ledner's 1964 National Maritime Union.

By Dave Weinstein, San Francisco Chronicle. Published May 3, 2008
Parkmerced Investors plans to make major changes to one of San Francisco's most unusual neighborhoods, including demolishing the garden apartments, preserving the high-rises and adding others, along with new midrise dwellings. Many of the streets and most of the open space would be reconfigured as well.
