Between 1954 and 1967 Albert C. Ledner, AIA, designed 14 projects for the National Maritime Union. Four were built in New York; all are expressive mid-century modern. In 2003 the dormitory building was reborn as the signature Maritime Hotel. The future of the Curran/O’Toole Building will be determined as Saint Vincent’s hospital moves forward with its plans for a new hospital. DOCOMOMO New York/Tri-State has invited Mr. Ledner to present the inside story on his work for the Union, with emphasis on the New York projects.

The Sarasota Architectural Foundation has sent out a Request For Qualifications, initiating a competition for a design and financial plan to provide alternative use and preservation of Paul Rudolph’s historic buildings at Sarasota’s Riverview High School, built in 1958, which are currently scheduled for demolition.

Located in downtown Baltimore, the Morris A. Mechanic Theater is both an architectural and historical landmark that contributes greatly to the fabric of Baltimore as a city. However, the theater has been acquired recently after sitting empty for three years. Although no firm plans have been announced, various commercial and residential developments have been mentioned and the theater’s interiors have been partially demolished. With these recent activities and as part of a move by the Baltimore Commission for Historic and Architectural Preservation to recognize the significance of historic buildings before they are under threat of imminent demolition, the commission is considering the theater for landmark status.

The Dutch chapter of DOCOMOMO is honoured to host the 10th International DOCOMOMO Conference, 13-20 September 2008, with the general theme 'The Challenge of Change'. The 2008 edition will mark the 20th anniversary of DOCOMOMO.

The venue will be the Van Nelle factory in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.
This renowned Modern Movement icon will accommodate the conference programme of Parallel Paper and Case Study Presentations, Round-table Sessions, the 2nd edition of the International DOCOMOMO Student Workshop and public evening lectures by distinguished invited speakers. Pre- and postconference tours to Dutch MoMo buildings and other landmarks of Dutch
architecture will also be part of the conference programme.

The Georgia Chapter was recognized in May by the Historic Preservation Division for “fostering an awareness of Modern architecture in Georgia and promoting the preservation of the state’s mid-20th Century buildings and landscapes,” as part of the 11th annual Preservation Achievement Awards. Honorees are recognized as having helped further the division’s mission, vision and goals, and thereby making a significant contribution to historic preservation in Georgia.
