DOCOMOMO US is excited to announce the fifth annual National Tour Day! Join us Columbus Day weekend, October 8-10, for a variety of exciting tours and exclusive access to sites of the Modern Movement. Check individual listings for dates and times as some events begin in September.

Here are just a few of the this year's tours:

*Palm Springs Modernism Week will host its most popular event, the “Modernism Double Decker Architecture Bus Tour” on October 8th and 9th. A fun open-air double decker bus tour of Palm Springs, California provides a guided look at iconic mid-century modern architecture by some of the most renowned architects of the period. Combined with striking natural beauty, visitors will understand why Palm Springs has been a glamorous destination and celebrity outpost for over 90 years.

*ModernPhoenix joins Tour Day with a guided architectural bus tour including exclusive access to five of Phoenix’s most loved mid-century modern properties and neighborhoods. Homeowners, architects, and interior designers will be present to discuss process, materials, and history. (Note this tour will be taking place on October 16, 2011 to coincide with National AIGA Conference events in the region.)

*The Chicago Chapter Society for Architectural Historians (CCSAH) will be hosting a tour of “Edward Dart: Houses of Worship.” A guided tour of St. Procopius Abbey in Lisle, IL will be lead by Father Beckett Franks.

*Docomomo US is thrilled to announce Ira Rakatansky: As Modern As Tomorrow on Sunday, October 9th with a presentation by architect Ira Rakatansky and tour of residential structures in the Providence area designed by Mr. Rakatansky. Stops on the tour include exclusive access to interiors and the ticket price includes a copy of the book Ira Rakatansky: As Modern As Tomorrow.

*Join the Historic Albany Foundation for an afternoon tour of Edward Durell Stone's iconic State University of New York at Albany (1961-69) campus in Albany, New York. Built as the first modern SUNY campus under Govenor Nelson Rockefeller, tour the mid-century modern campus and meet special guest Hicks Stone, author and son of E.D. Stone.
