Docomomo US welcomes three new Directors

The Docomomo US Board of Directors is pleased to welcome three new members to the board: Monica Schaffer, Bradford White, and Barbara Yanni. 

The Docomomo US Board of Directors are nominated and selected to enrich the organization's professional, academic, and geographical diversity. Board members serve executive roles and chair committees for advocacy, membership and the Docomomo US Register. Currently the board has 16 members who bring a wealth of knowledge and experience in architecture, preservation, real estate, finance, development, and a love for modern architecture.

Monica Schaffer leads global public relations for Gensler’s workplace sector, collaborating with regional PR teams across North America, Asia, and Europe to develop media strategy and tactics that drive awareness of Gensler among key audiences worldwide. Monica developed and manages social media for the work sector and grew the firm’s Twitter, Facebook, and blogging accounts into influential channels for workplace news, expertise, and thought leadership. Prior to Gensler, Monica designed communication strategies for a diverse range of organizations including Procter & Gamble, Estee Lauder, the Guggenheim, Hunter Douglas, and 3Form architectural products.

 
 
 

Bradford J. White was appointed by President Barack Obama as a General Public Member of the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation in 2011; he was reappointed to the Advisory Council in 2014. Brad is the Associate Director of the Alphawood Foundation, a Chicago-based private foundation working for an equitable, just and humane society. Responsibilities include researching and analyzing major project opportunities, providing funding recommendations, and leading implementation efforts. Previously, Brad focused on affordable housing and community development.

 
 
 
 

Barbara Yanni is a long-time member of DOCOMOMO with a passion for modern architecture. Barbara is the proud owner of a Modernist house and an avid architectural traveler. She has over thirty years of experience in business development and financial evaluation in the pharmaceutical industry. Barbara retired from Merck and Co., Inc. in 2014 as head of its Corporate Licensing group; under her leadership the group successfully negotiated over 150 agreements to acquire rights to scientific innovations from biopharmaceutical companies and universities. Barbara currently serves as an independent director of three biopharmaceutical companies which are in the early stages of discovery and development. Barbara has a JD from Stanford Law School and an AB from Wellesley College where she studied physics and Latin. She also holds a Masters of Law in Taxation from New York University.
