Modernism in America Awards Nomination Submission


DOCOMOMO US invites submissions for the first annual Modernism in America Awards, which celebrate the documentation, preservation and re-use of modern buildings, structures and landscapes built in the United States or on U.S. territory. The deadline for submissions is March 15, 2016.

Awards will be presented in each of the following categories:

  • Design: Residential
  • Design: Commercial
  • Design: Institutional/Civic
  • Inventory/Survey
  • Advocacy

Early nominations must be submitted by 11:59 PM on February 9, 2016.
All nominations must be submitted by 11:59 PM on March 15, 2016.

Processing Fee:
There is a $150 processing fee per nomination (waived for Advocacy Award) for submissions received by March 15, 2016. Nominations received on or before February 9, 2016 will be extended an early discounted processing fee of $100 per nomination. Processing fees can be sent via Paypal or check payable to DOCOMOMO US. Please include the name of the project submission when submitting the processing fee.

Narrative (up to 750 words) addressing:

  • The significance of the building(s), structure(s) or landscape(s);
  • The character-defining features of the building(s), structure(s) or landscape(s) that influenced the content or design of the project;
  • Design projects: how the intervention related to the building(s)’s, structure(s)’s or landscape(s)’s history and physical fabric;
  • Inventory/survey projects: the importance of the work within the larger realm of modern architecture preservation and why it will have a lasting impact;
  • Advocacy projects: the scope of the advocacy efforts, impact on the site and community and the result of the work. Advocacy efforts will be given equal consideration in the case of preservation, demolition and on-going efforts.
