KEYNOTE: WHERE NEW AND OLD MEET: A plea for sustainable modernity
Hubert-Jan Henket is an architect and the founder and Honorary President of Docomomo International. He graduated cum laude in 1969 under Aldo van Eyck at the Faculty of Architecture at the Delft University of Technology. Afterwards he studied urban design at Otaniemi University in Finland. He worked in Helsinki for Reima Pietilä. From 1971 to 1976 he worked in London for Castle Park Dean Hook architects. In 1976 he started his own architectural firm in the Netherlands, since 2010 known as BiermanHenket architects. He is professor emeritus of the Eindhoven University of Technology and the Delft University of Technology. He was knighted Ridder in de Orde van de Nederlandse Leeuw, he received the BNA Kubus and is Honorary Fellow of The Royal Institute of Architects of Ireland. In 2002 Hubert-Jan Henket and Hilde Heynen compiled the book Back from Utopia, the Challenge of the Modern Movement. In 2013 Hubert-Jan Henket published his book entitled Waar Nieuw en Oud Raken, een pleidooi voor houdbare moderniteit in architectuur.
