Swarthmore College's campus is one of the most beautiful in the country, but its rich trove of modern architecture has not received the attention it deserves. Join DocomomoPHL on an in-depth tour of the modern architecture of this campus. We will visit buildings by Mitchell/Giurgola, Vincent Kling, Bishop & Wright, and Venturi Scott Brown. Architect John Lawson, FAIA, of MGA will discuss his design work on the Lang Music Center. This selection of buildings demonstrates the "Both-And" optimism of the 1960s and 70s as these architects attempted to exalt art and science, as well as emotion and function. DocomomoPHL's mission is to preserve, educate, document & advocate for modern architecture, landscape & design as important pieces of American history.
