During the 1960s Isamu Noguchi and Louis Kahn collaborated on various playground and community spaces for the area between the West Side Highway and Riverside Drive from 101st to 105th Street. However, due to criticism and a new City administration in 1966 the project was abandoned.
Despite the abandonment of the project, the collaboration effort influenced Noguchi’s long spanning work with playground designs. In memory of this collaboration the Noguchi Museum is hosting a small installation of project models and drawings that showcase the Noguchi and Kahn’s collaboration. The exhibition is on view at the museum from October 3 through the spring.
